This proposal for a Belvedere is sited at the eastern most and highest part of the Hadspen Estate, from which St Alfred's Tower on the Stourhead Estate can be seen. Willow, a material used locally for the construction of baskets and fences is the material starting point. The Belvedere has an octagonal plan that tapers to its top. This stiff form helps give the structure resistance to torsion from wind-loading. The willow weaves around the structure much like a willow basket.
